ASA

ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a thermoplastic polymer closely related to ABS but with enhanced weatherability and UV resistance. It is commonly used in FDM 3D printing for outdoor and functional parts where mechanical strength and environmental resistance are required. ASA offers similar printing properties to ABS but with better stability in harsh conditions.

Benefits

Excellent UV and weather resistance

Good mechanical strength and toughness

Decent heat resistance

Better chemical resistance than ABS

Limitations

May be challenging to print

Limited availability of speciality colours

Not biodegradable

Industries

ASA is widely used in automotive, outdoor equipment, consumer goods, electrical enclosures, and sporting goods industries. It is preferred for parts exposed to sunlight, weather, and harsh environmental conditions where mechanical strength, UV stability, and durability are critical. Typical applications include exterior housings, functional prototypes, snap-fits, and outdoor fixtures.
