ULTEM 9085

ULTEM 9085 is a high-strength, flame-retardant polyetherimide (PEI) thermoplastic. It’s widely used in Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printing due to its excellent mechanical properties and compliance with industry regulations.

Benefits

High strength-to-weight ratio

Excellent flame, smoke, and toxicity (FST) rating, compliant with OSU 55/55

Inherent flame resistance (UL94 V-0)

Heat resistance up to ~170°C (338°F)

Good chemical and impact resistance

Fire Protection of Railway Vehicles (EN45545-2)

Limitations

High cost material

Needs high-temp industrial 3D printers

Warping and adhesion issues can arise if not printed under controlled conditions

Post-processing may be required

Typically available only in black or natural (amber)

Almost no material specific support materials

Industries

ULTEM 9085 is ideal for aerospace, marine, and land vehicles as it has a high strength to weight ratio and FST (flame, smoke, and toxicity class).
